1. We were a "what it is because of what it does":
We were "sinners" when we first arrived on this planet because of Adam. He cursed us, and until Jesus, we were doomed to hell because of this. We got our identity out of what we did, sin, and were known as "sinners" because of what we did. we got out identity out of our actions- until...
2. Until "Who He is" showed us "Whose we are":
God is I AM. He is everything He is to all that we need. He wanted to be able to freely show us this. Before, we couldn't have direct contact with Him because we were born into this world separated from Him. Because of His son, as Christians we are His. He showed us that we no longer get our identity out of what we do (flesh), but we get it from Him and who He is. We are "saints" now instead of "sinners," free instead of captive. He showed us that we are His- no matter what. His love is amazing.
3. because of "what He did":
God sent His son to save us. We would still be burning sacrifices at an alter (not that that was a bad thing, but it wasn't what God wanted for us- He had another plan to save us once and for all so that we could be clean in His sight), but for us to be clean forever because of His Son's blood. He saved us from ourselves, from hell, and cleaned us so that He could live inside of us and be close with us like He always wanted.
